A severe road accident took place on Monday in the Jwalamukhi area of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. A truck heavily loaded with iron rods lost control and crashed directly into the pillar of a four-lane bridge near Balugloa on the Matour-Kangra-Shimla four-lane highway. The impact of the collision was so violent that the iron rods pierced right through the truck cabin and went through the driver's body. The driver died on the spot, and was identified as 50-year-old Praveen Kumar, son of Porkhi Ram, and a resident of Chaitru.
Vehicle Heading Towards Gaggal And How The Mishap Occurred
According to available information, the truck was transporting iron rods and heading towards Gaggal. As it neared Balugloa, the vehicle suddenly lost control and rammed into the bridge pillar. Following the crash, a large crowd of local people gathered at the site. While initial speculations point towards brake failure as the primary reason behind the crash, authorities maintain that the exact cause will only become clear after a thorough police investigation.
Scattered Debris And Massive Traffic Jam On The Highway
The collision scattered the truck and its heavy cargo across the road, severely disrupting traffic movement. Long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the Kangra road, resulting in a massive traffic jam that lasted for several hours. Commuters and motorists faced immense difficulties due to the blockade. Since the iron rods were stuck inside the driver's body, extracting the remains proved to be extremely challenging, taking several hours of rigorous effort before the body could be retrieved.
Police Action And Restoration Of Normal Movement
Upon receiving information, the Jwalamukhi police team rushed to the spot and inspected the area. The police took custody of the deceased driver's body and initiated procedures to send it for a post-mortem examination. Heavy machinery including JCB and poclain excavators were deployed to clear the wrecked truck and debris from the highway. Once the vehicle was completely removed, the route was reopened, allowing vehicular traffic to resume gradually. Police have launched an official probe to determine the precise circumstances leading to the accident.
