A catastrophic road collision in the Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon claimed the lives of two sisters and left two others critically injured. The deceased include a five-month pregnant woman and her younger sister, who were travelling on a motorcycle with family members. The group was returning home after paying homage at a pilgrimage shrine when an oncoming commercial truck collided with their two-wheeler, triggering immediate chaos along the corridor.
Family Was Returning After Visiting Shrine
The victims hailed from the village of Nag Guradiya, located in the neighbouring Ujjain district. The rider, Arjun, had travelled to the Doodhakhedi Mata temple alongside his wife Sapna, their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Somiya, and his sister-in-law Radha. Following their prayers on Wednesday, the entire family began their return journey towards their native village on a single motorcycle.
Around 2:20 PM, as the two-wheeler approached the section where the Garoth-Ujjain four-lane connects with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, a speeding truck arriving from the direction of Mandsaur struck the motorcycle with intense force. The impact threw all four occupants forcefully onto the asphalt surface.
Fatalities at the Scene and Emergency Response
Due to the severe trauma sustained during the crash, five-month pregnant Sapna and her sister Radha passed away on the spot before medical assistance could intervene. Meanwhile, Arjun and his toddler daughter Somiya suffered multiple severe injuries upon crashing against the pavement. The deafening sound of the collision quickly drew local villagers and passersby to the crash site.
Local residents acted swiftly, providing immediate aid and transporting the injured father and daughter to the nearby government hospital in Garoth. Medical personnel at the facility admitted both individuals without delay and initiated primary medical treatment to stabilize their condition.
Police Seize Offending Vehicle and Open Investigation
Upon receiving distress alerts regarding the tragedy, personnel from the Garoth police station arrived at the location to secure the area and manage vehicular movement. Law enforcement personnel recovered the bodies of both deceased women and transferred them to the mortuary, where post-mortem procedures were formally conducted.
From his hospital bed, Arjun recounted that the family was peacefully heading back to Nag Guradiya after visiting the Doodhakhedi Mata temple when the high-speed truck suddenly slammed into them on the expressway-connecting four-lane stretch. Following directives issued by Garoth police station in-charge Balveersingh Yadav, officials impounded the involved truck and transported it to the police premises. Investigators are actively gathering details to identify the truck driver and determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.
