Security forces and police personnel in Jammu and Kashmir have uncovered a concealed cache of weaponry and foreign material during an intensive search operation inside a commercial establishment in Poonch. The raid took place at a jewellery store situated in the bustling main market area of the town, resulting in the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, live rounds of ammunition, Pakistani currency notes, and border-origin flags along with posters. The discovery of combat-grade arms within an active marketplace has led to heightened vigilance across the border district.
Nighttime Search Operation in Poonch Commercial Hub
The joint operation was initiated at approximately 8 PM on a Friday evening. A police contingent from the Poonch police station arrived at the commercial establishment accompanied by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit and a local Naib Tehsildar to oversee the administrative and legal protocols. The targeted premises belonged to Davinder Singh, a resident of Mohalla Khorinar in Poonch. During the formal search conducted in the presence of magistrates and forensic personnel, officials seized live AK-47 ammunition rounds, Pakistani currency totalling 105 rupees, along with Pakistani posters and flags kept inside the establishment.
Two Terrorists Neutralised in Udhampur Forest Encounter
The seizure in the Poonch market follows multiple coordinated counter-terror initiatives carried out across Jammu and Kashmir. In Udhampur district, a joint operation was mounted after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of armed operatives hiding in the dense, remote forested terrain of Majalta. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, operating in close coordination with the Army, cordoned off the suspected sector. A late-night firefight erupted with gunfire and explosions echoing across the forest canopy, culminating in the neutralisation of two armed terrorists and the subsequent confiscation of their weaponry and combat stores.
Lashkar Commander Yasin Eliminated in Budgam
The intensifying security perimeter across the region also marked a significant breakthrough in Budgam district earlier in the same month. Acting on specific surveillance data under 'Operation Ashdar', security forces cornered and neutralised a commander belonging to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. The eliminated operative was officially identified as Yasir. Law enforcement authorities continue to execute coordinated combing operations to dismantle clandestine supply chains and logistical networks supporting subversive activities in both rural terrains and urban market centres.
