Security forces have dismantled a major terrorist hideout in the Surankote area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. Conducted amid heightened vigilance ahead of the 80th Independence Day, the operation resulted in the recovery of multiple Improvised Explosive Devices, heavy weaponry, and live ammunition. The surrounding dense forest areas have been completely cordoned off as troops maintain round the clock surveillance over any suspicious movement. Comprehensive search operations have been intensified to track down suspects and prevent any disruption to upcoming national celebrations.
Suspicious Activity Observed Near Tunnel Construction Site
The anti terror drive was triggered by suspicious movements spotted on Tuesday near a tunnel construction project in Poonch district. A security guard posted at the infrastructure site noticed unexplained activity during the early hours of Tuesday morning and fired three to four precautionary rounds. Officials confirmed that no injuries or damage to property occurred during the incident. Following the event, a coordinated search initiative was launched on Friday morning around 6:00 AM by personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Special Operations Group, and the Central Reserve Police Force. Joint security columns advanced into the rugged forest stretches of Bhata Dhurian, Sangiot, and adjoining terrain. No direct exchange of fire or armed encounter between security forces and terrorists has taken place so far.
Search Operations Expanded Across Mendhar, Mankote, and Rajouri
Following initial reports near the tunnel location in Mendhar sector, search efforts were widened to cover multiple vulnerable sectors. Additional operational drives are concurrently taking place across Surankote and Mankote. Furthermore, security protocols were strengthened in the neighboring Rajouri district following intelligence inputs and local village reports of unidentified individuals in the area. Border zones in Rajouri and regions around Naushera have seen increased patrolling and tactical checkpoints.
Deployment of Advanced Surveillance and Special Units
The joint security operations combine troops from the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force.
