A tragic incident has been reported from the industrial city of Durgapur in West Bengal, where a 21-year-old first-year medical student was found dead in his hostel room at a private medical institution. The deceased student has been identified as Abhishek Kumar, a resident of Sitamarhi district in Bihar. The discovery of his body hanging in his locked hostel room on Friday afternoon triggered widespread shock and sorrow across the college campus. Initial reports suggest that the student may have taken the extreme step due to overwhelming mental stress and anxiety related to an upcoming academic examination. Kanksa police arrived at the location, took custody of the body, and registered a case to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.
Unfolding of the Incident at the Hostel
According to official sources and hostel eyewitnesses, 21-year-old Abhishek Kumar was pursuing his first year of MBBS at a private medical college and hospital situated in the Rajbandh area of Durgapur. On Friday afternoon, his roommate stepped out of the hostel room for brief routine work. When the roommate returned a short while later, he found the room bolted tightly from the inside. He knocked repeatedly on the door and called out Abhishek's name multiple times, but received no response from within. Growing increasingly suspicious and concerned over the total silence, the roommate promptly alerted the hostel warden, security personnel, and neighboring students.
Responding quickly to the alert, hostel officials and several students gathered outside the room. After failed attempts to get a response from inside, the group forced open the door lock to gain entry. Inside the room, they discovered Abhishek hanging. The students immediately lowered him and rushed him to the emergency department of the adjoining private hospital in hopes of saving his life.
Declared Dead at Hospital and Family Informed
Upon arrival at the emergency unit, medical officers examined Abhishek and pronounced him dead. Hospital officials stated that despite immediate emergency protocols being activated upon receiving the patient, resuscitation efforts could not succeed.
