At the Disneyland fair hosted inside the Purnima Talkies campus in Jhumri Telaiya, Koderma, an aromatic Rajasthani pickle stall has been drawing steady crowds. Behind the counter stands Vikas Kumar, whose journey from an ordinary stall helper to an independent small business owner reflects persistence and careful observation. Around five years ago, Vikas worked merely as an assistant at stalls run by other merchants, using his modest daily earnings to support his family while learning the nuances of the retail trade from up close.
Transforming Practical Experience into Ownership
Instead of viewing his initial helper role merely as a job, Vikas closely studied how pickle products were sourced, preserved, and marketed to retail customers. Armed with hands-on experience and determination, he eventually launched his own commercial venture. Today, he no longer works under anyone else and independently runs his mobile retail setup. Whenever Disneyland fairs travel to different cities, Vikas travels with them, setting up his dedicated counter to serve visitors authentic regional culinary specialties.
Twenty-Eight Flavors at Accessible Price Points
The stall offers an expansive lineup of 28 distinct pickle varieties, catering to those who prefer sour, sweet, or sharp, spicy flavors. To keep the offerings accessible to mainstream buyers, Vikas maintains a uniform and straightforward pricing structure of 80 rupees for a 250-gram pack. His counter features preparations made from ginger, bitter gourd, amla, and red chili, alongside special seasonal batches produced during specific times of the year.
Regional Demand Patterns and Daily Sales Figures
Highlighting consumer preferences in Jharkhand, Vikas notes that bamboo-bitter gourd and garlic varieties consistently generate the strongest interest among local shoppers. On the other hand, customers with a sweet tooth gravitate heavily toward mango and tamarind preparations. Combining all 28 options, the stall records sales exceeding 15 kilograms of pickle every single day, bringing in daily revenues between 4,000 and 5,000 rupees. During a typical month-long exhibition run, the cumulative turnover reaches between 1.5 and 2 lakh rupees.
Authentic Regional Ingredients and Two-Year Longevity
The durability and taste of the products rely on traditional manufacturing practices. Vikas points out that premium-grade edible oil and characteristic Rajasthani spice blends form the foundation of these recipes. The stock is directly manufactured in and transported from Rajasthan. When properly handled, stored, and preserved, these pickles retain their flavor profile and quality for up to two years without spoiling.
