A major catastrophe was narrowly averted in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Wednesday when a gas leak erupted from a moving tanker loaded with liquefied petroleum gas near Sonari Dumuhani. The incident triggered immediate alarm in the area due to the highly flammable nature of the cargo and the continuous stream of vehicular traffic along the busy stretch. However, the quick thinking of the tanker driver, combined with a swift police blockade and effective intervention by technical experts, successfully neutralized the threat before any disaster occurred.
Sudden Gas Leak on the Road and Driver's Prompt Response
The dangerous situation unfolded while the heavy LPG tanker was navigating the road near Sonari Dumuhani. Without any prior warning, gas began escaping from the tanker's containment system. The driver noticed the leak almost immediately while behind the wheel. Recognizing the extreme risk of driving a leaking gas carrier, he promptly steered the vehicle to the side of the road and brought it to a complete halt. Stepping out to safety, the driver immediately contacted the company management as well as local law enforcement authorities to report the emergency.
Sonari Police Intervention and Traffic Restriction
Upon receiving the emergency dispatch, a team from the Sonari police station rushed to the location. Sonari police station in-charge Madhusudan Dey arrived at the spot to personally supervise the containment operations. Understanding that even a minor spark from passing vehicles could ignite the escaping gas, the police immediately cordoned off the entire zone. Traffic moving in both directions along the Sonari Dumuhani route was completely halted, and pedestrians were kept at a safe distance. The sudden closure created brief moments of panic among commuters, but police control was established rapidly.
Technical Team Controls Leakage and Ensures Safety
Shortly after being notified, an expert emergency response team sent by the LPG company arrived at the scene. Technicians inspected the tanker's safety valves and piping assembly, pin-pointed the origin of the breach, and successfully plugged the leak. Company manager Shivkumar confirmed that the gas outflow was completely stopped and the vehicle secured. Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries took place during the event. Given the high volume of traffic on this road, the driver's alertness and prompt communication were widely credited as the primary reasons a severe explosion was prevented.
