When evening approaches, people often crave something spicy and savory to pair with their tea. Reaching for unhealthy junk food during these hours is a common habit, but a wholesome homemade alternative can easily replace it. Residents in Ranchi looking for a flavorful evening bite can try making a delicious snack using fried black chana and murmura, which satisfies hunger while keeping health in mind.
Usha, a homemaker from Ranchi, points out that she frequently prepares this snack at home during evening hours. Black chana is packed with health benefits and provides a strong dose of physical energy. This snack is not only appetizing but also fills the stomach quite quickly after consumption.
The preparation begins by soaking black chana in water overnight. The next morning, boil the soaked chana thoroughly in water. Heat mustard oil in a pan, add finely chopped onions, and then mix in turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt to taste, red chili powder, and chaat masala before tossing the boiled chana into the spices. Cover the pan and let it cook for 10 to 15 minutes until the chana turns completely soft, then transfer it to a plate.
Next, take some murmura and roast it in the same pan until it turns thoroughly crunchy. Move the roasted murmura into the same plate containing the fried chana and mix both ingredients together evenly.
To elevate the flavor profile further, you can sprinkle some namkeen or savory mixture on top. Additionally, finely grated cucumber, carrot, and radish can be added to the mix. Your steaming hot and spicy evening snack is now fully prepared to enjoy alongside evening tea while staying away from junk food.
