Shock and grief gripped the BIT Mesra campus in Ranchi late at night following the discovery of a postgraduate student found hanging inside her hostel room under suspicious circumstances. The deceased, identified as MSc student Anjali, was residing in hostel number 9 of the premier institute. The incident triggered widespread panic across the academic complex as soon as the news spread.
Alarm Raised After Room Remained Locked
Anjali had returned to her hostel room on Saturday evening following the conclusion of her classes. However, concern began to mount among neighbouring residents when she failed to step out for a prolonged period and did not respond. Sensing something amiss, fellow hostellers promptly alerted the hostel warden and institute authorities. Upon inspecting the room, Anjali was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan.
Personal Diary Recovered Amid Stress Concerns
Officers from the BIT police station reached the spot shortly after receiving the call, taking custody of the body and securing the premises for evidence. While investigators did not locate any suicide note at the scene, they recovered a personal diary during the search. Written entries inside the journal indicate that the student was grappling with significant familial issues and experiencing intense psychological strain. Preliminary indications suggest that severe emotional distress may have prompted her actions.
Autopsy and Family Statements Awaited
Police personnel concluded the initial inquest formalities on site and forwarded the body for post-mortem analysis. Investigating officials stated that definitive conclusions regarding the exact cause and timeline of death will be determined once the autopsy report is delivered. Statements from her family members will also be formally recorded to verify the background context, while authorities continue to examine every angle of the case.
