Dr. Ajay Kumar Rai, senior agricultural scientist at the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra, issued a detailed advisory highlighting the critical need for early pest detection and preventive crop care. According to the specialist, continuous inspection during the initial growth phase enables growers to identify pathogens and infestation risks before they cause widespread structural damage to the standing crop.
Fungal Disease Prevention and Seedling Root Treatment
Agronomists point out that the probability of insect infestation and disease outbreaks rises significantly around 20 to 25 days after paddy seedlings are transplanted into the field. To minimize these vulnerability risks, preventive measures should ideally begin at the time of planting itself. Treating seedling roots by dipping them into a prepared solution of Carbendazim fungicide prior to transplantation creates a protective barrier against soil-borne fungal pathogens during early vegetative growth.
Balanced Fertilization and Stem Borer Pest Control
For robust root development and optimal nutrient uptake, agricultural experts recommend applying Azotobacter bio-fertilizers. Dr. Rai emphasized that achieving high grain yields requires more than routine chemical sprays; balanced soil nutrient management plays an equally vital role. Providing seedlings with requisite macro and micro-nutrients strengthens stem structure and reinforces the plants natural resistance against stress factors.
Special focus has been directed toward monitoring fields for stem borer pests, which pose a severe threat to young paddy plants. If symptoms of stem borer attack appear, farmers are urged to refrain from unguided pesticide purchases. Instead, they should consult certified agricultural advisors to determine the exact dosage and appropriate chemical formulation. Following expert guidance prevents unnecessary pesticide usage, reduces input expenses, and ensures targeted pest eradication without damaging soil health.
Water Regulation and Field Drainage Protocols
Regulating field moisture levels remains fundamental to healthy paddy plant maturation. The advisory specifies maintaining a shallow standing water depth of 2 to 5 centimeters during the initial transplanting phase. After a period of 15 to 20 days post-transplanting, water levels can be safely increased to a depth of 5 to 7 centimeters to support ongoing plant development.
Agriculture scientists also warned against allowing excessive water accumulation in fields. Prompt drainage mechanisms must be established to remove surplus water caused by heavy rainfall or over-irrigation. Prolonged stagnation leads to root rot and rotting of lower stems, compromising plant stability and drastically reducing overall harvest yields.
