A striking story of determination and love for education has emerged from Palamu district in Jharkhand amidst severe local flooding. Kritika Kumari, a 5-year-old student studying in Class 5 and residing near Bank Colony in Ward Number 2 of Medininagar, refused to let a natural calamity halt her schooling. After floodwaters destroyed her textbooks and notebooks, she personally walked into the district administration's Jan Samadhan public grievance program to seek assistance.
Rising Koyal River Inundates Residential Areas
The situation escalated following heavy rainfall across the region, which triggered a sudden and sharp rise in the water level of the Koyal River. The surging river inundated several low-lying neighborhoods in Palamu, including the Bank Colony area of Medininagar where Kritika lives with her family. Floodwaters rushed into her house, submerging and ruining household belongings. Among the destroyed items were Kritika's school bag, notebooks, textbooks, and essential stationery supplies, which were completely swept away or ruined by the water.
Young Student Approaches District Officials
Faced with the sudden loss of her study materials, Kritika encountered a major obstacle to continuing her daily lessons. Rather than giving up, the young student displayed extraordinary courage and initiative. She made her way to the Jan Samadhan grievance redressal forum organized by the district authorities. Standing before top administrative officials, she explained her predicament, stating that the deluge had destroyed all her books and that she urgently needed a fresh set of study materials so her education would not be interrupted.
Deputy Commissioner Orders Immediate Assistance
Palamu Deputy Commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat was deeply moved upon hearing the young girl's story and witnessing her unwavering commitment to learning. Taking immediate action, DC Dilip Pratap Singh Shekhawat directed the District Education Officer to promptly provide Kritika with a complete package of textbooks, notebooks, and required educational supplies. This swift administrative intervention has ensured that the young girl can resume her classroom studies without further delay.
Resilience Amid Flood Destruction
The overflow of the Koyal River affected multiple low-lying localities across Palamu, subjecting numerous households to property damage and displacement. Kritika's family was among those affected by the deluge. However, her proactive step in approaching the highest district authorities under challenging circumstances highlights her remarkable resolve. The prompt administrative support has not only restored her educational journey but also set an inspiring example of perseverance in the face of adversity.
