Emergency health assistance is on the way to flood-stricken parts of Assam as an eight-member medical contingent departed on Friday to organize relief camps. Organized by the Resident Doctors Association of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Aligarh Muslim University, the team is bringing essential pharmaceuticals and humanitarian supplies to assist communities displaced by the escalating waters.
Medical Team Deployment and Camp Plans
According to RDA president Dr Akhtar Ali, the medical delegation will stay on the ground in the flood-affected regions for a minimum of four days. During their stay, the doctors will establish field health camps, conduct physical examinations, and directly distribute medications to victims. AMU PRO and Vice Chancellor Prof Mohsin Khan officially flagged off the medical team from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College premises.
Casualties and Scale of Deluge
Official data released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority indicates that the total death toll from this year's floods has risen to 104 after one more fatality was confirmed in Sivasagar district. The overall number of impacted residents across the state has crept up past 78,000, while the number of affected districts remains steady at seven. Submerged areas span 313 villages across 20 revenue circles in the districts of Nagaon, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Kamrup, Hojai, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur.
Districts Worst Hit and Emergency Shelter Setup
Golaghat stands as the hardest-hit district with 30,778 residents affected by floodwaters, followed closely by Nagaon with 26,292 affected individuals and Sivasagar with 12,480. In response to the large-scale displacement, local authorities are operating 31 emergency relief camps that currently house more than 5,000 people. Additionally, 37 relief distribution centers are actively delivering vital supplies to displaced households across the affected revenue circles.
