As the festive season approaches, celebrations are in full swing across the entertainment industry, with Bollywood stars hosting high-profile gatherings. Recently, Ayushmann Khurrana hosted a star-studded Diwali party where numerous celebrities turned up in stunning outfits that captured the attention of fans. However, alongside the glamour of party season, the annual debate surrounding the use of firecrackers has resurfaced. Joining the conversation, actress Madhoo opened up about her own nostalgic memories tied to crackers while making a sincere appeal to the public to celebrate an eco-friendly Deepawali without bursting crackers this year.
Nostalgic Childhood Memories of Crackers
Actress Madhoo took to social media to reflect on her childhood celebrations, noting that this time of year holds extra significance for her family as her children's birthdays fall around the same period. She admitted that bursting firecrackers used to be an integral and exciting part of the festivities for her during her growing-up years.
Recalling those days, actress Madhoo shared that she would often compete with her cousins over firecrackers, trying to prove who was braver among them. She described running around barefoot while holding strings of firecrackers in her hands to ignite them, completely unbothered by the risk of burning her feet or sustaining any injuries during the chaotic fun.
Saying No to Childhood Traditions
Actress Madhoo acknowledged that telling people to stay away from firecrackers is far from easy because it directly conflicts with the beautiful memories she cherishes from her own youth. She expressed that every time she urges others to avoid crackers, it feels as though she is saying no to her own cherished past.
Despite this personal attachment, she emphasized that given current environmental conditions, stepping back from firecrackers has become a necessity. She pointed out that air pollution levels in cities are already a severe problem, and bursting crackers only adds to the toxic haze, worsening the situation for everyone.
Protecting Asthma Patients and Animals
Highlighting the health hazards of pollution, actress Madhoo noted that numerous individuals struggle with chronic respiratory illnesses. She stressed that while enjoying the festivities, people must remember those who suffer due to poor air quality. Diwali is fundamentally a festival of spreading joy, and ensuring that celebrations do not harm others' health is a shared responsibility.
Furthermore, she voiced deep concern over the severe noise pollution caused by loud firecrackers. She explained that deafening explosions not only distress humans but also terrify household pets, particularly dogs, who panic and bolt out of fear, making them extremely difficult to calm down. She appealed directly to pet owners to understand their animals' distress and actively help minimize noise pollution during the festival.
Spreading Love Instead of Noise
Concluding her message, actress Madhoo stated that bursting firecrackers is by no means mandatory for celebrating Deepawali. People can enjoy the festival just as meaningfully by wearing vibrant traditional clothes, visiting friends and family, embracing one another, and sharing sweets. The true essence of Diwali lies in fostering love, happiness, and togetherness, making it crucial to ensure our celebrations do not cause distress to anyone else.
