Getting a zipper stuck on your favorite jeans or jacket while getting dressed is a common and irritating problem. This usually happens due to reduced greasing, trapped debris, or slightly bent teeth. When a zipper gets jammed, people often try to force it by pulling hard, which frequently ends up breaking the chain entirely. If your zipper is stuck, avoid the mistake of pulling it forcefully. Without visiting any tailor, you can fix your jammed zip in minutes using simple items available right at home.
Graphite From A Pencil
The graphite used inside a pencil is an excellent lubricant that can easily resolve this issue. Take an ordinary pencil and thoroughly rub its lead up and down along the teeth of the zipper. Afterward, try sliding the runner up and down gently. The graphite will reduce the friction in the zipper, allowing it to move smoothly once again.
Using A Candle Or Crayon
Wax has been used for years to fix stubborn zippers because it creates smoothness between the teeth. Rub a white candle or a child's colored crayon firmly over the jammed portion of the zipper. When using a candle, be careful not to stain colored clothing. After applying the wax, gently move the zipper, and it will open right up.
Soap Or Petroleum Jelly
You can also use soap or petroleum jelly to fix a problematic zipper. If the zipper has become extremely stiff, the bathing soap or petroleum jelly kept in your bathroom will come in handy. Use a cotton bud or your finger to apply a small amount of petroleum jelly, liquid soap, or vaseline onto the teeth of the zipper. Once lubricated, gently pull the runner back and forth, and it will start working smoothly.
Coconut Or Mustard Oil
You can also utilize mustard or coconut oil to restore a jammed zipper. Put one to two drops of oil on a piece of cotton and apply it lightly only to the teeth of the zipper, taking care to prevent the oil from spreading onto the fabric. Once applied, slide the zipper to restore its normal movement.
