The attack occurred close to one of the world's most strategically vital energy shipping corridors, even as the United States and Iran remain bound by a ceasefire and efforts toward a durable peace deal continue. According to UKMTO — the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations — the vessel was positioned some eight nautical miles east of Limah, Oman, at the time of the strike. The agency reported no casualties and no damage to the surrounding marine environment.

The mortal remains of Ali Khamenei, Iran's departed supreme leader, reached the sacred city of Qom on Sunday evening, after an immense funeral procession earlier that day had drawn vast throngs of mourners into the streets of Tehran. Both ordinary Iranians devoted to the Islamic Republic and senior state officials took part in the procession. A truck bearing Khamenei alongside the remains of four of his relatives — all of whom perished in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike on February 28 — moved at a measured pace toward Azadi Square in the western part of the capital. Similar ceremonies are planned for Qom today, with the mourning trail then extending to the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. "The body of the martyred leader has arrived in Qom," Iran's state broadcaster announced on social media, sharing footage of a helicopter touching down in the city bearing Khamenei's remains.
