Wearing saffron robes, Independent lawmaker Pappu Yadav joined several Opposition members on Friday (July 31, 2026) within the Parliament complex to symbolically demonstrate the alleged stealing of contributions intended for Ayodhya's Ram Temple. The demonstration saw participation from Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi, who raised voices against the donation issue as well as the police action taken against protesting students during their march toward Parliament on July 20. Demanding accountability along with the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Opposition parliamentarians staged a strong protest inside the complex premises over the alleged financial irregularities.

With Opposition members continuously shouting slogans, the business of the Lower House was called off for the day and adjourned until August 3, 2026.

Presiding officer Dilip Saikia appealed to protesting Opposition lawmakers to step back to their designated places. However, as shouts echoed through the chamber, the House approved 'The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026'. Addressing the floor, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju called out the Opposition for shunning the debate. He called upon Opposition MPs to contribute to constructive deliberations rather than creating continuous parliamentary disruptions.

House business restarted with Dilip Saikia in the Chair. Meanwhile, Opposition parliamentarians persisted with their loud sloganeering to press for Union Minister Amit Shah's resignation.

Responding to calls for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to step down, Congress leader Pawan Khera stated that all victims of violence deserve justice, while perpetrators must be penalized. He questioned why similar accountability is not enforced here, noting that when paper leaks occur, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is held accountable and asked to resign. Khera argued that the Minister in charge must likewise accept ownership of the pellet gun incident and that the Home Minister ought to resign as well.

Addressing the call for Union Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation, Congress MP Pawan Khera stated that every victim of violence deserves justice, and perpetrators must face action. He questioned why accountability is applied selectively, noting that Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation is sought whenever exam papers leak. Similarly, he argued, the responsible minister should take ownership of the pellet gun incident, asking why the Home Minister should not also step down.

As Opposition members kept chanting slogans, proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were curtailed and the House was adjourned until August 3, 2026. It will reconvene at 11 a.m.

Opposition MPs maintained their shouting campaign demanding the resignation of Amit Shah and bringing up the Ayodhya donation scam. Meanwhile, amidst the slogans, a BJP leader highlighted the need to shield lawyers from malicious FIRs. He further called for a specific provision to ensure protection for legal professionals and their families.

Union Cabinet Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan intervened to accuse the Opposition of impeding House business, asserting that India is watching their behavior and the country will not forget this act. He strongly condemned their conduct. Undeterred, Opposition parliamentarians continued to shout slogans insisting on the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Congress President and Leader of the Opposition in the House, Mallikarjun Kharge, raised the notice submitted under Rule 267. Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan ruled that no such notices would be entertained. Opposition members continued their sloganeering during the House proceedings.

Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan reprimanded TMC leader Derek O'Brien for disrupting the House. He urged Mr. O'Brien to resume his seat and allow the House to function. However, Mr. O'Brien and fellow Opposition lawmakers continued their sloganeering.

Amid persistent slogans and turmoil, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the Lok Sabha proceedings until 12:00 PM.

He added that Gandhi's current state of mind stems from the Congress party being out of power for twelve years, remarking that Congress leaders seem to lose their senses without power.

BJP MPs from Jharkhand held a silent demonstration in Parliament against alleged malpractices in recruitment examinations—including JPSC and JSSC-CGL in Jharkhand—demanding a CBI investigation into the matter.

Members of Parliament from Opposition parties, with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra among them, organized a demonstration at Parliament's Makar Dwar. The protest was directed against Union Home Minister Amit Shah to denounce the police intervention against CJP demonstrators that occurred on July 20.
