The deadly incidents occurred when suspected armed militants launched coordinated attacks targeting local villages across the two districts. Among the four deceased individuals were two women, highlighting the brutal nature of the sudden assault. The timeline of these tragic events coincided with the annual commemoration of "Sahnit Ni" or "Black Day," which is observed every year on September 13 by the Kuki community. This day marks a solemn remembrance of the lives lost during the intense Kuki-Naga ethnic clashes that ravaged the state during the 1990s.

Expressing his profound grief and outrage, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam wrote on X about the distressing attack that took place at Tollen Kuki Village. The assault claimed the life of Lhingjangai Singsit, while her husband and their infant son sustained severe gunshot wounds during the firing. The minister emphasized that violence directed at innocent civilians is completely intolerable. To address this situation, he has directed security agencies and administrative officials to execute all necessary measures to uncover the facts, track down the culprits, and ensure that legal procedures are executed without fear or partiality.
The Strategic Vulnerability of National Highway 37
The fatal attack on Lhingjangai Singsit occurred directly at her residence in Tollen Kuki village, which lies in close proximity to National Highway 37. This highway is a vital transit corridor connecting Imphal with Jiribam, making security along this route a highly sensitive issue. The tragedy deepened when her injured husband, Seineih Singsit, succumbed to his critical injuries while being transported to a medical facility in Silchar, located in neighboring Assam. The Home Minister reiterated that the security of every resident is paramount and no act of terror will be permitted to push the region back into a cycle of instability.
