The New Delhi DCP's office stated on Saturday, July 18, 2026, that Sonam Wangchuk has been transferred to hospital for urgent medical attention in compliance with Delhi High Court directions and on the recommendation of medical specialists, given his steadily worsening physical state. In a post on X, the DCP wrote: "While executing the Hon'ble High Court's directions, a section of protesters attempted to create hindrance, leading to a brief disturbance; however, police maintained full restraint and brought the exercise to a safe conclusion. We urge those gathered at Jantar Mantar to clear the area peacefully without further delay." Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das alleged that Delhi Police personnel climbed onto the stage at Jantar Mantar and blocked activist Sonam Wangchuk from the sight of the assembled crowd as his hunger strike reached its 21st day. Footage from the Jantar Mantar demonstration site showed Delhi Police personnel guiding activist Sonam Wangchuk down from the protest stage. Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das accused Delhi Police of scaling the dais at Jantar Mantar and concealing activist Sonam Wangchuk from public view as his hunger strike entered its 21st unbroken day. Das also alleged that party founder Abhijeet Dipke is being held back at Jhandewalan and prevented from travelling to the protest site, and that students present at the venue were subjected to a lathi-charge by police personnel.
