A large gathering of farmers has taken to the streets in Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, pressing for key agricultural demands. Escalating their demonstration against state authorities, the agitating farmers have prepared a strategic plan to encircle the Chief Minister's residence to demonstrate their collective strength. The primary demands include a complete government takeover of the entire mung bean crop at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the immediate abolition of the token distribution system for fertilizers. In response, local administrative authorities and police personnel have been placed on high alert.
High-Level Security and 5-Layer Barricading
To block the marching crowd from reaching the Chief Minister's residence, law enforcement agencies have deployed elaborate security protocols across key city intersections. Heavy security cordons have been established around the Veer Savarkar Setu bridge, where security personnel erected 5-layer barricading. Additionally, authorities parked massive public buses across the roadways to serve as physical barriers against the advancing farmers. Despite these extensive security obstacles, hundreds of farmers have begun regrouping near Veer Savarkar Setu, voicing strong resentment over the strict police blockades.
Core Demands: Crop Procurement and Fertilizer Allocation
The protesting farmers emphasized that current state procurement policies cause severe financial distress. Under the existing mechanism, the government procures only 25 percent of the total mung bean yield at the designated Minimum Support Price. Farmers are consequently forced to sell the remaining portion in the open market at lower prices, resulting in steep financial losses. Consequently, their foremost demand is the 100 percent state procurement of the mung bean harvest. Furthermore, farmers are demanding an immediate end to the token system required for obtaining fertilizers, citing administrative hassles and long queues. By marching toward the CM House, the farmers aim to force the administration into accepting these terms.
Traffic Gridlock on Hoshangabad Road and School Closures
The widespread agitation has significantly disrupted daily life and municipal traffic in Bhopal. Yesterday, major vehicle gridlocks occurred along Hoshangabad Road and nearby areas due to farmer rallies, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and school buses. Fearing potential security risks and further traffic chaos during today's demonstration, numerous educational institutions along Hoshangabad Road declared a holiday. School management authorities noted that student safety cannot be compromised under any circumstances, prompting the preventative closure.
