A major security lapse has come to light from the Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, where unidentified miscreants targeted a Bank of India ATM located on Bhanpura Road in Garoth town, escaping with approximately six lakh rupees. The clever culprits utilized a gas cutter to slice through the automated teller machine and scooped up the entire cash reserves within a matter of minutes before slipping away smoothly. The daring crime only came to public attention the following morning when local shopkeepers noticed the severely damaged state of the booth.
The Crime Executed Under Cover of Darkness
According to available details, the entire incident took place between 1 AM and 4 AM on the intervening night of August 29 and August 30. The perpetrators entered the Bank of India ATM booth on Bhanpura Road, taking full advantage of the dead of night while arriving fully prepared for the heist. Using a gas cutter, they sliced open the machine and cleared out roughly Rs 6 lakh in cash before disappearing from the spot. This major theft on a main thoroughfare has caused widespread panic throughout Garoth town.
Questions Raised Over Police Patrolling and Investigation
Upon receiving word of the cut ATM, the Garoth police team rushed directly to the scene to assess the situation. Currently, police personnel are scouring CCTV footage from Bhanpura Road and surrounding vicinities to trace the arrival and escape routes used by the culprits. Carrying out such a major theft on a main city road using a gas cutter for an extended duration has cast serious doubts on the local police force's night patrolling and security arrangements.
Bank Management's Laxity and Delayed Reporting
The most shocking aspect of this entire episode has been the irresponsible attitude displayed by the bank management. Despite such a massive cash theft from the ATM, bank officials failed to show urgency in reaching the police station to register a case immediately. Bureaucratic delays persisted for hours after the incident, creating significant hurdles for the police in initiating their preliminary investigation. Addressing the matter, the ASP of Garoth stated that a formal complaint has now been received from the bank management, prompting the police to register a case and intensify the investigation.
