Legal troubles have deepened for Neha Bora, the national president of the All India Students Association (AISA). Following her prominent involvement in recent street protests across Delhi, the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court has ordered her to make a fresh personal appearance. According to the latest court directions, Neha Bora must appear before the SEM court on November 20. The student leader, who made headlines during the recent demonstrations in the national capital, continues to face regulatory and judicial scrutiny arising from administrative notices issued to her.
High Court Relief Denied and Document Handover
The latest court directive comes on the heels of a significant legal setback for the AISA leader at the Delhi High Court. Neha Bora had previously approached the High Court to challenge the notice served upon her by the SEM court. However, the High Court dismissed her petition, effectively directing her to follow the established magistrate court procedures. While dismissing the plea, the High Court directed the executive magistrate to furnish all relevant case documents to her. Following this, she visited the SEM court located at Mandir Marg, where the magistrate handed over the entire dossier of documents connected with the issuance of the notice. During that hearing, the magistrate had scheduled October 28 as the next date of hearing, requiring her to submit a formal reply to the notice on or before that date.
Refusal to Sign the Peace Bond and Legal Standoff
Throughout the proceedings, Neha Bora has maintained a defiant posture regarding administrative conditions. The SEM court had required her to execute a peace bond of Rs 10,000 alongside a surety to ensure the maintenance of public peace and order during the ongoing investigation. Neha Bora publicly refused to comply with this requirement, stating unequivocally that she would not sign any peace bond. Although her challenge against the SEM notice was struck down by the Delhi High Court, she continued to publicly resist the mandate of signing the financial bond for good behavior.
Controversy Over Bangladesh Protests Remark
Beyond her courtroom battles, Neha Bora has frequently drawn intense national attention for her sharp political commentary. In one of her most controversial statements, she linked anti-SIR demonstrations in India to the student-led uprising in Bangladesh. She claimed that the movement in Bangladesh served as a guiding path for Gen-Z across the globe, arguing that just as the struggle in Bangladesh was fought for democracy and voting rights, Indian Gen-Z youth are likewise fighting to safeguard democracy and franchise rights. This assertion triggered a sharp political backlash. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a fierce critique against her, linking her political ideology with that of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. BJP spokespersons alleged that both shared an identical mindset aimed at disrupting democratic institutions and engineering unrest within India.
