A significant upgrade in Madhya Pradesh's connectivity has begun with the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Indore-Ujjain four-lane greenfield corridor in Sanwer. The ceremony was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. This mega infrastructure project is designed to cut down travel time between the two major cities to a mere 30 to 35 minutes. Aimed for completion before the Simhastha 2028, the corridor is expected to act as a catalyst for growth, transforming the regional transport network while saving valuable transit time for commuters.
Project Route and Seamless Connectivity
Spanning a distance of 48 kilometers, this four-lane greenfield corridor will commence from Pitra Parvat in Indore and culminate near the Chintaman Ganesh Temple at the Simhastha Bypass in Ujjain. The route is set to offer world-class connectivity benefits to daily commuters, local business owners, and international tourists alike. It will establish a swift route from Indore's airport and railway station directly to the revered Mahakal Temple in Ujjain.
With millions of devotees anticipated to visit Ujjain during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2028, this corridor will serve as a vital lifeline. It is engineered to seamlessly manage heavy traffic flows and prevent severe gridlocks, ensuring a smooth travel experience for the visiting pilgrims.
Project Budget, Rural Integration, and Farmer Compensation
The total investment for this greenfield corridor is estimated at Rs 2935 crore. It will directly link 20 villages in the Indore district and 8 villages in the Ujjain district, with several neighboring villages also reaping indirect economic gains. Notably, the government determined the land acquisition compensation based on actual market and transaction rates rather than the standard collector guidelines. This fair-pricing strategy ensured that local farmers received payouts multiple times higher than conventional rates.
Boosting Trade and Regional Integration
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighted that the Indore-Ujjain greenfield corridor would accelerate the developmental pace of the entire state. He noted that the corridor will establish an alternative route connecting the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, thereby stimulating commercial activities across the region.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar remarked that the corridor would bring the two historic cities closer and strengthen their socioeconomic bonds. Additionally, during the event, a central allocation of Rs 5,657 crore was handed over to Madhya Pradesh to fund various regional welfare programs, specifically targeting employment generation and housing projects for eligible beneficiaries.
