In the Balha village of Barauli block located within Bihar's Gopalganj district, an extraordinary display of filial devotion has caught widespread public attention. A local resident named Manjur Hasan has taken a deeply emotional step to ensure he remains beside his late mother even after death. Decades after her passing, his grief and devotion remain undiminished, leading him to construct his own resting place directly adjacent to her shrine so that he will not be separated from her in the afterlife.
A Childhood Bond Shattered by Sudden Loss
The youngest of three sons born to the late Mubarak Hussain, Manjur Hasan shared an exceptionally close relationship with his mother, Shah Shahrbano Hasani. From his early childhood, he felt a profound attachment to her, an affection that she reciprocated with equal warmth. Throughout the trials and uncertainties of daily life, being in her presence provided him with an enduring sense of comfort, instantly easing all burdens and anxieties.
This cherished foundation collapsed in June 1999 when his mother passed away. The shock of her death struck him deeply, turning his everyday existence into an overwhelming emotional struggle. Over time, he gradually regained his footing and chose to honor her memory by building a shrine over her resting place, dedicating himself to preserving the emotional bond they had shared.
Daily Devotion and Arrangements for His Final Journey
Tending to his mother's shrine gradually became the primary focus of Manjur Hasan's daily routine. He spends a major portion of each day at the site, sweeping the premises, ensuring its upkeep, and reflecting in quiet remembrance. Because the pain of her absence never completely faded, he decided to make practical preparations for his own eventual demise alongside her.
To fulfill his desire of remaining near her in perpetuity, he had a grave dug and prepared right next to her shrine. Alongside preparing the plot, he also took the unusual step of purchasing his burial shroud well in advance. He selected a green shroud, explaining his fondness for the color and highlighting its traditional reverence as a Husaini color. His explicit wish for the community and family is that when his time comes, he should be shrouded in this specific green fabric and laid to rest right beside his mother.
Maternal Wisdom and an Appeal to Care for Aging Parents
Throughout his life, Manjur Hasan has adhered closely to the ethical values his mother instilled in him. She frequently guided him to treat everyone with kindness and warmth, advising against harboring animosity toward anyone. She taught him that extending sincere affection to others naturally dispels hostility and builds harmonious relationships, a principle he continues to uphold as his life's guiding compass.
Reflecting on his journey, Manjur Hasan offers a heartfelt message to the broader community, urging children everywhere to value and support their parents while they are alive. He emphasizes that sons and daughters must actively serve their aging parents, treat them with dignity, and never leave them to face isolation. He reminds people that while fond memories linger forever after parents depart, their genuine love and protective shelter can never be recovered once lost.
