Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday urged all sections of the public to steer clear of bandhs and blockades when expressing grievances. Speaking to reporters prior to his departure for New Delhi, he emphasized that these disruptive methods frequently trigger violence and heap unnecessary hardship on ordinary citizens, while failing to resolve underlying issues.
Emphasizing Democratic Channels
The Chief Minister maintained that both the state and central administrations remain fully dedicated to addressing the legitimate concerns and aspirations of the people of Manipur. He encouraged anyone with complaints to pursue alternative democratic methods of protest instead of relying on shutdowns and road closures. He noted that shutdowns invariably amplify public suffering without guaranteeing any resolution to the matters being contested.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh drew specific attention to vulnerable groups who bear the heaviest burden during such disruptions. Daily wage earners struggle to support their households when work halts, while women vendors incur severe financial losses as markets and routine commercial activities grind to a halt. Furthermore, he voiced strong unease regarding the toll that academic interruptions take on students.
Calling youth the foundational pillars of tomorrow, he urged all stakeholders to protect the educational calendar from interference. He also issued a stern warning that authorities will take decisive action against any individuals who break the law or attempt to manufacture chaos during demonstrations.
High Level Talks in New Delhi
Explaining his itinerary, the Chief Minister stated he was heading to New Delhi to confer with senior central leaders regarding ongoing developments in the region. He praised the efforts of the fourteen civil society organization leaders and the legislative delegation that recently campaigned in the capital for the implementation of the NRC, noting that their outreach produced encouraging feedback from central officials.

In addition, he welcomed the resumption of passenger bus operations connecting Imphal, Dimapur, and Guwahati after a suspension lasting over three years. He noted that reviving this highway transport corridor offers substantial financial relief to travellers who previously had to shoulder the high cost of air tickets between Imphal and Guwahati.
