Representatives belonging to the Maring and Tangkhul communities hailing from the Machi Block in Tengnoupal district met with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Secretariat on Thursday to voice their concerns regarding local infrastructure, healthcare, security, and overall community development.
Delegation Leadership and Background
The visiting delegation was headed by Jajo Sylvester Headman, Wairok Hangshing who serves as the President of the Maring Uparap Assembly, and Bosco Maring acting as the Chairman of Machi Village. The Maring Uparap Assembly functions as an apex civil society organization representing the Maring Naga community, enabling them to present long-standing regional grievances directly to the state administration.
Infrastructure and Healthcare Upgrades Sought
During the discussions, the community representatives emphasized the urgent requirement for better connectivity across the region, urging the state government to undertake the improvement of roads and bridges linking various villages. They additionally requested the upgradation of the existing Primary Health Centre located at Machi into a Community Health Centre in order to enhance local healthcare services and expand medical access for residents.
Security Concerns and Police Shortages
Addressing the prevailing law-and-order situation, the delegation drew attention to a severe shortage of personnel at the Machi Block Police Station. They noted that the station currently operates with only 25 personnel to secure approximately 50 surrounding villages, prompting a strong appeal to the Chief Minister for the immediate deployment of additional security forces.
Financial Institution Security and Community Facilities
Furthermore, the representatives pointed out that the Bank of Baroda remains the sole banking institution operating within the Machi Block area, stressing the necessity for robust security measures to protect staff, customers, and assets. They also requested the establishment of a dedicated community hall in every village to facilitate public meetings, social gatherings, and other collective activities.
Government Response and Official Statements
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attentively listened to the grievances presented by the delegation and assured them that the state administration would initiate necessary actions to resolve the raised matters. Following the meeting, he shared an update on X stating that he met with leaders from the Machi Subdivision to discuss welfare, development, and safety. He reiterated that the government remains resolute in addressing community concerns, ensuring public well-being, and advancing inclusive development, peace, and stability across Manipur.
