Manipur's election machinery has initiated a comprehensive statewide campaign designed to ensure no eligible voter remains absent from the electoral rolls, according to a statement released by the Chief Electoral Officer's office on Monday. This active exercise comes directly ahead of the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for early next year.
Special Camps Across All Districts
All 16 district election officers have launched the campaign, deploying special camps across the 3,041 polling booths spanning the entire state. Voters facing enrolment-related grievances or those requiring assistance can approach their designated booth-level officers, any of the 84 assistant electoral registration officers, the 60 electoral registration officers, or the 16 district election officers directly.
Revision and Voter Statistics
The new drive follows the Special Intensive Revision of the rolls, after which the Election Commission officially published Manipur's final electoral list on September 6. The updated rolls currently account for more than 19.60 lakh electors distributed across the 60 assembly constituencies of the state. While the latest revision successfully added 56,871 voters, it also removed 1.89 lakh names from the registry, though the official statement did not specify the exact reasons behind these deletions.
Gender Distribution in the Electorate
Chief Electoral Officer Arun Kumar Sinha had previously stated that the total rolls comprise 9,53,350 male voters, 10,06,962 female voters, and 308 third-gender electors, indicating that women currently outnumber men within the state electorate. These special camps aim to give individuals with enrolment concerns a reliable opportunity to resolve their issues and verify their inclusion before voting begins.
