Jio Platforms, the telecom and digital flagship steered by Mukesh Ambani under the Reliance umbrella, is heading toward Dalal Street with its much awaited initial public offering. The issue is scheduled to launch for bidding on Wednesday, 21 October, generating intense excitement across domestic retail networks as well as premier international trading hubs. Having firmly cemented its leadership in the Indian telecommunications sector, the conglomerate is now unlocking value through what stands as one of the market's most anticipated corporate milestones.
Bidding Demand Surges Eight Times Past Issue Size
Long before the formal bidding window opens, investor appetite for Jio Platforms shares has climbed to extraordinary heights. Total demand for the issue has touched nearly 2.5 lakh crore rupees, dwarfing the total offering size of 30,213 crore rupees by more than eightfold. This unprecedented interest spans both local institutions and international fund managers, signaling robust faith in the digital network's operational momentum and subscriber monetization prospects. The massive subscription interest highlights deep market liquidity eager to back market leading assets.
Domestic Heavyweights And Sovereign Wealth Funds In The Fray
India's premier financial institutions have signaled aggressive intent to secure allotments in the equity offering. Sector heavyweights including the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), SBI Mutual Fund, and HDFC Mutual Fund have lined up alongside leading asset managers. At the same time, top tier foreign institutions and global asset managers have thrown their hats into the ring. Heavyweight allocators including BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments, and Norges Bank Investment Management have expressed intent, joined by major sovereign wealth institutions such as the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Qatar Investment Authority.
Uday Kotak Highlights Attractive Relative Valuation
Seasoned financial leader Uday Kotak, founder and director of private sector lender Kotak Mahindra Bank, delivered a strong endorsement regarding the pricing philosophy chosen by the issuer. He highlighted that the issue leaves visible room on the table for capital appreciation by pricing the equity at a sensible discount to historical peer multiples. Jio Platforms has fixed its price band at 34 times its projected consolidated earnings for fiscal year 2026 (FY26), creating an immediate valuation buffer against its closest sector rival, which currently trades at a multiple of 41 times earnings.
Assessing the discount relative to competitors, Uday Kotak remarked, "Comparatively speaking, Jio Platforms has made it quite attractive for investors." Industry watchers note that this conscious pricing strategy helps ensure wide distribution across diverse investor tiers and bolsters secondary market performance once trading officially commences.
