Gold prices have surged to a three-month high, maintaining a stellar rally that has rewarded investors with robust returns over a 55-day period. The precious metal has posted impressive gains in August, coming closer to its previous all-time highs as macroeconomic factors and global market dynamics align in favor of bullion.
Significant Price Jumps Across Purity Levels
Domestic bullion markets recorded sharp upward movements, with 24-carat gold surging by Rs 8,800 per 100 grams to reach Rs 16,39,700, while the 10-gram price climbed by Rs 880 to Rs 1,63,970. Similarly, 22-carat gold jumped by Rs 8,000 to hit Rs 15,03,000 per 100 grams, with the 10-gram rate up by Rs 800 to Rs 1,50,300. Purity at 18-carat also witnessed strong buying, jumping by Rs 6,100 to Rs 12,29,300 per 100 grams and rising by Rs 610 to Rs 1,22,930 per 10 grams. Single-gram rates also reflected proportionate increases across all categories.
Monthly Performance And Multi-Month Highs
Prices for 24-carat, 22-carat, and 18-carat gold are up by 14% in India through August so far, marking the strongest monthly performance since January 2026. Furthermore, 24-carat gold is currently sitting at a three-month peak, having last neared the Rs 1.63 lakh mark in mid-May 2026. The lowest rate for the year was recorded on July 1st at Rs 1,40,780 per 10 grams for 999 purity. From that baseline, 999 purity gold has delivered approximately 16.5% returns over a span of 55 days.
Calculating Investor Gains
To put the rally into perspective, an investment of Rs 2 lakh made on July 1st would have secured roughly 14.20 grams of gold. At current market valuations, the unrealized gains on that specific investment stand at approximately Rs 32,940, bringing the total portfolio value to Rs 2,32,940. The all-time high for 999 purity gold was recorded on January 29, 2026, at Rs 1,78,850 per 10 grams. At present levels, 24-carat gold sits roughly Rs 14,880 away from testing its ultimate peak once again.
Global Drivers And Market Sentiment
Market analysts note that gold has notched its third consecutive positive week, aided by a softer U.S. dollar, declining Treasury yields, and bond-buyback plans announced by the U.S. Treasury. A weakening dollar makes dollar-denominated bullion more accessible for international buyers, providing structural support to precious metals. Federal Reserve policy expectations and employment data continue to dictate the near-term trajectory for non-yielding assets.
Technical Outlook And Future Projections
On the technical front, COMEX gold has broken past 4,550 and is currently holding ground above that threshold. Sustained momentum could pave the way toward the 4,750 to 4,800 range, while support remains solid around 4,400. On the MCX, gold is projected to trade within the 1,55,500 to 1,67,000 bracket. If MCX gold approaches the higher end of that range, retail physical gold rates could test new highs within the next two weeks.
