Tensions within the Cine and Television Artists Association, commonly known as CINTAA, continue to escalate as leadership responds to mounting friction. Former general secretary Upasana Singh had earlier levelled serious accusations against the organization, specifically targeting CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon and Vice President Padmini Kolhapure by accusing them of running the body in a dictatorial manner. Addressing the media in a joint press conference, both veteran actors firmly dismissed these claims, refuting any assertions that the association functions through authoritarian or unconstitutional methods.
How Decisions Are Actually Made
Padmini Kolhapure took charge of explaining the operational framework during the briefing, emphasizing that no single individual holds the authority to unilaterally execute decisions within CINTAA. She detailed that conducting an Executive Committee meeting requires a mandatory quorum of at least 8 members, after which any matter is settled strictly on the basis of a majority vote. She added that even steps like organizing a press conference cannot be decided on an individual whim and demand thorough discussion amongst the committee members beforehand.
Questioning the Influence Over Veteran Artists
Addressing the narrative that committee members operate under pressure from Poonam Dhillon or leadership, Kolhapure challenged the logic behind such claims. She pointed out that the committee features respected and seasoned performers such as Pintu, Rakesh Bedi, and Yashpal Sharma. Questioning the premise, she asked whether artists of such senior standing would ever blindly follow instructions or allow two individuals to impose a dictatorship over a body filled with experienced minds.
Validating the Current Committee's Standing
Kolhapure also addressed questions concerning the legitimacy of the active committee, affirming that the current setup remains entirely legal and has neither been dissolved nor terminated. According to her, every member operates strictly in adherence to the constitution of the association, with their collective focus centered squarely on safeguarding the welfare and interests of CINTAA members.
Expressing Regret Over Reputational Damage
Poonam Dhillon voiced her deep distress and displeasure regarding the unfolding controversy. She stated that the remarks made by the previous committee and its former general secretary regarding the association have inflicted severe damage on CINTAA's reputation. She stressed the necessity of bringing accurate facts to light, noting that leaving one side unheard allows unverified allegations to be mistaken for truth.
The Catalyst Behind the Controversy
This institutional rift intensified significantly when 11 members of CINTAA's 21-member Executive Committee tendered their resignations. This group included 8 elected members who cited a decline in faith regarding the current administrative functioning and demanded fresh elections to resolve the impasse.
