The upward momentum seen across Indian equity markets over recent sessions paused on Friday, October 16, as investors locked in gains amid cautious signals across international bourses. Benchmark equity gauges opened with modest losses, retreating into the red as early trading commenced. The BSE Sensex fell by 250 points shortly after the opening bell, while the broader NSE Nifty retreated by more than 60 points. Despite the prevailing cautious tone across broader markets, heavyweight technology and telecom names staged a sharp counter-rally that prevented steeper losses in the headline barometers.
