Indian stock markets kicked off the second trading session of the week on a subdued note, opening flat in the red after closing with a robust rally in the previous session. The BSE Sensex started the day down by 4.03 points or 0.01 percent at 76,831.75. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty 50 index opened 24.70 points or 0.10 percent lower at 23,971.25. It is worth noting that the local stock markets had witnessed a strong opening and a bumper closing on Monday. In the previous session, the Sensex had surged by 776.01 points to settle at 76,835.78, while the Nifty climbed 228.50 points to reach 23,995.95.
Infosys Shares Open With Strong Gains
During Tuesday's opening bell, 15 out of 30 Sensex constituent companies opened in the green with gains, 13 companies started in the red with losses, and 2 companies opened completely flat without any change. Similarly, out of the 50 stocks in the Nifty 50, 24 companies opened higher, 23 declined, and 3 opened unchanged. Among the Sensex constituents, Infosys, the country's second-largest IT company, recorded the highest opening gain of 1.68 percent. On the other hand, Mahindra and Mahindra saw the biggest drop at opening, shedding 0.87 percent.
Stocks That Opened With Gains
Among other Sensex stocks, Tech Mahindra rose 1.56 percent, TCS gained 1.26 percent, Sun Pharma advanced 0.72 percent, HCL Tech climbed 0.48 percent, Indigo increased 0.36 percent, Adani Ports moved up 0.28 percent, L&T rose 0.26 percent, Maruti Suzuki gained 0.24 percent, Titan moved up 0.23 percent, Bharti Airtel rose 0.17 percent, Tata Steel increased 0.16 percent, BEL climbed 0.11 percent, Bajaj Finance gained 0.09 percent, and Bajaj Finserv opened with a negligible rise of 0.01 percent. Hindustan Unilever and Eternal began their trading session without any change.
Banking Stocks Open In The Red
On the flip side, several heavyweights opened with losses on Tuesday. HDFC Bank shares slipped 0.62 percent, Kotak Mahindra Bank dropped 0.56 percent, Power Grid declined 0.45 percent, UltraTech Cement fell 0.39 percent, State Bank of India lost 0.36 percent, ITC dipped 0.31 percent, Reliance Industries eased 0.25 percent, Trent dropped 0.11 percent, ICICI Bank fell 0.08 percent, Axis Bank slipped 0.04 percent, Asian Paints edged down 0.01 percent, and NTPC opened with a marginal loss of 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, separate developments highlighted that Bank of Baroda suffered a data breach, though authorities assured that the banking system remains entirely secure.
