The domestic equity benchmark indices endured a challenging week as selling pressure dragged down seven of India's top 10 most valuable companies by market capitalization. Collective losses for these seven corporate giants exceeded ₹1,13,000 crore over the trading period. Conversely, defying the broader negative sentiment, three blue-chip firms managed to add a combined ₹21,718.47 crore to their total valuation.

During the week, equity markets experienced notable volatility before closing in negative territory. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 276.32 points or 0.35 per cent. Simultaneously, the broader 50-share NSE Nifty index shed 76.35 points, marking a drop of 0.31 per cent. This headline index weakness directly impacted market capitalizations across major listed entities.
Major Losers in Market Capitalization
The companies suffering reductions in valuation included telecom major Bharti Airtel, conglomerate Reliance Industries, banking powerhouse HDFC Bank, financial firm Bajaj Finance, engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T), state-owned insurer Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), and FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever. Among these, Bharti Airtel witnessed the steepest contraction in its market valuation.
Detailed Breakdown of Top Losers
Bharti Airtel recorded the highest valuation decline among all top firms, losing ₹40,500.85 crore over the week. This drop brought its total market capitalization down to ₹11,74,462.30 crore.
Reliance Industries registered the second largest valuation loss, shedding ₹40,056.32 crore. Its market capitalization reduced to ₹17,38,119.27 crore. Despite this drop, Reliance Industries maintained its status as the country's most valuable company.
Banking heavyweights also faced downward movement. HDFC Bank saw its market valuation contract by ₹11,558.35 crore to settle at ₹11,09,600.70 crore. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance's market capitalization fell by ₹10,086.05 crore, reaching ₹6,70,535.57 crore.
Losses Across Infrastructure, Insurance, and Consumer Goods
Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro experienced a decrease of ₹6,473.45 crore in its market capitalization, bringing its valuation to ₹5,55,987.49 crore. State insurer Life Insurance Corporation of India saw its valuation slide by ₹3,162.5 crore to stand at ₹5,32,817.81 crore. Consumer goods manufacturer Hindustan Unilever recorded a valuation dip of ₹1,550.73 crore, settling at ₹4,72,361.83 crore.
Bucking the Trend: Three Gainers
On the winning side, IT services giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) led the gainers list. TCS added ₹16,643.20 crore to its market capitalization, taking its valuation up to ₹8,48,079.71 crore.
In the banking sector, ICICI Bank expanded its market capitalization by ₹4,475.28 crore, elevating its valuation to ₹10,22,805.73 crore. Additionally, state-run lender State Bank of India (SBI) saw a market cap increase of ₹599.99 crore, lifting its total valuation to ₹9,65,568.75 crore.
