Precious metal prices in domestic markets experienced a volatile trajectory over the past week, swinging between gains and losses before concluding the period on a softer note. Overall, bullion values dipped by roughly two to three percent across the week, driven by shifting global economic cues and monetary policy expectations from major central banks. Retail buyers and investors have been closely tracking these fluctuations as market participants adjust their positions amid changing macroeconomic conditions.
Retail Prices Across Gold Purity Grades
On Saturday, August 29, 24 Karat gold registered a decline of Rs 289, settling at Rs 15,824 per gram. Concurrently, 22 Karat gold dropped by Rs 265 to trade at Rs 14,505 per gram. For larger quantities, the price of 10 grams of 24K gold stood at Rs 1,58,240, while buyers looking for 8 grams and 100 grams faced price tags of Rs 1,26,592 and Rs 15,82,400 respectively.

Futures Market Performance and Silver Trends
In the futures segment, MCX gold contracts for October 5 closed Friday's session on August 28 with a 1.63 percent decline, finishing at Rs 1,56,400 per 10 grams. Profit booking intensified after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh signaled a hawkish stance on inflation, which dampens expectations surrounding forthcoming US interest rate cuts and subsequently weighs on bullion sentiment.
Meanwhile, silver prices remained unchanged for the second consecutive trading day. The white metal held steady at Rs 255 per gram. This places the cost of 8 grams at Rs 2,040, 10 grams at Rs 2,550, 100 grams at Rs 25,500, and a full kilogram at Rs 2,55,000. The flat movement provided a brief pause for retail consumers following earlier weekly swings.
Market participants continue to monitor broader economic indicators and currency valuations that impact safe-haven demand. Prithviraj Kothari, MD at RiddiSiddhi Bullions Ltd. and President of IBJA, noted that ongoing currency debasement concerns helped provide underlying support to bullion prices throughout the week.
