Educational and sporting infrastructure within the village of Thangbuli in Meghalaya has gained substantial momentum following the launch of multiple regional development initiatives. These newly introduced projects aim to bridge infrastructural gaps by delivering enhanced academic facilities and modern learning tools to rural students, thereby fostering comprehensive youth development across the area.
Foundation Stones for School and Sports Ground
Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui formally initiated the development drive by laying foundation stones for a brand-new government lower primary school building alongside comprehensive upgrades to the village playground. The school infrastructure project is being executed under the fourth phase of Mission Education, with an estimated financial outlay of Rs 70.18 lakh. Concurrently, the village sports ground is slated for extensive modernization, featuring a newly covered sitting gallery and additional ancillary infrastructure designed to support local athletic events, backed by a budget of Rs 1.22 crore.
Digital Library and Access to Resources
Expanding beyond traditional classrooms, Rymbui also inaugurated a dedicated library for children and adolescents integrated with contemporary digital infrastructure. Developed throughout the 2024-25 period under the SRES-BID programme, this facility involved an investment of Rs 17.20 lakh. The initiative is specifically structured to broaden access to essential learning resources and modern digital tools for young residents, ensuring they remain equipped for contemporary educational demands.
Promoting Youth Sports and Self-Reliance
The developmental visit further coincided with the official opening of the Amwi Higher Secondary School Knock-Out Football Tournament for the 2026-27 session. This athletic competition is designed to cultivate active sporting participation among local youth while simultaneously supporting institutional growth. Addressing the assembled community members, Rymbui underscored the critical role that education, skill acquisition, and sports play in shaping productive opportunities for the younger generation. He strongly encouraged students to leverage these newly established resources effectively and strive toward personal self-reliance.
