Domestic gold prices witnessed a sharp downward revision on August 27, offering a visual break to buyers after recent trading sessions. In a notable market correction, 22-carat gold dropped by Rs 7,000 for a 100-gram quantity, while the standard 10-gram denomination decreased by Rs 700. Following this price movement, updated retail rates were reflected across major Indian states as well as top national retail chains including Tanishq, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, and Kalyan Jewellers.
Updated 22K, 24K, and 18K Gold Rate Breakdown
On August 27, the price of 22-carat gold dipped by Rs 70 per single gram, reaching Rs 14,985. The 8-gram weight category experienced a reduction of Rs 560 to stand at Rs 119,880. For consumers buying a 10-gram bar or heavy piece, the price slipped to Rs 149,850 after a Rs 700 drop. The largest price shift occurred in the 100-gram tier, which crashed by Rs 7,000 to settle at Rs 1,498,500.
Meanwhile, 24-carat pure gold was priced at Rs 16,347 per 1 gram and Rs 1,63,470 per 10 grams. In the 18-carat segment, gold traded at Rs 12,260 per 1 gram and Rs 1,22,600 per 10 grams. Industry analysts attribute the local adjustments to ongoing currency dynamics and shifts in global bullion benchmarks.
Official IBJA Rates Across Different Purity Levels
According to updates from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), 999 purity fine gold dropped to Rs 15,848 per 1 gram. The association reported reductions across other purity benchmarks as well, with 995 purity gold moving to Rs 15,784 per 1 gram and 916 purity (22-carat) reaching Rs 14,517 per 1 gram. Lower purity tiers saw 750 purity gold decline to Rs 11,886 per gram, while 585 purity gold adjusted down to Rs 9,271 per gram.
Retail Outlet Prices Across States and Leading Jewellers
At general retail storefronts, 22-carat gold was quoted at Rs 14,940 for 1 gram and Rs 1,49,400 for 10 grams. These rates were uniformly active across multiple states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, and West Bengal.
Prominent national jewellers mirrored these updated rates in their regional stores. At Malabar Gold & Diamonds, 22-carat gold was sold at Rs 14,940 per 1 gram and Rs 1,49,400 per 10 grams. Similarly, across a majority of cities, Kalyan Jewellers offered 22-carat gold at identical figures of Rs 14,940 per gram and Rs 1,49,400 per 10-gram unit.

Prithviraj Kothari, Managing Director at RiddiSiddhi Bullions Ltd. and President of the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, provided comprehensive market analysis regarding current trends. He highlighted that gold and silver held steady this week amid ongoing currency debasement worries, while traders focused on Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's upcoming address in Jackson Hole. Detailing interest rate projections, Kothari noted, "Rate expectations currently stand at 36.5% for September and 72.7% by December."
Addressing geopolitical influences, Kothari mentioned that Qatar's Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Tehran to help ease bilateral tensions between the U.S. and Iran following renewed sanction statements from Washington. From a technical standpoint, international gold continues to consolidate in a range between $4,585 and $4,675 per ounce. Domestic gold prices corrected to Rs 157,000, helped by rupee strength following Reserve Bank of India interventions. International silver trades between $67 and $70 per ounce with a domestic correction to Rs 238,500, and both trading bands are anticipated to hold through the current week.
