A total of 16 people lost their lives in separate incidents across Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, while multiple others sustained injuries. Severe thunderstorms and rainstorms triggered direct lightning strikes in Jharkhand, claiming 13 lives and injuring 8 individuals. Simultaneously, electrical current accidents in Uttar Pradesh killed 3 people and injured another, spreading grief across affected communities as local administrations stepped in with emergency responses.
Lightning Strikes Claim 13 Lives Across Three Jharkhand Districts
Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning wrought havoc across rural belts of Jharkhand on Tuesday. According to police statements, lightning strikes in Giridih, Dumka, and Latehar districts killed at least 13 individuals and injured 4 others. Official breakdowns indicate that 8 deaths occurred in Giridih district, 3 in Dumka district, and 2 in Latehar district, while local police station reports in Latehar also documented 3 fatalities alongside a severely injured woman from separate lightning incidents.
Giridih Suffers Highest Fatalities
Giridih district registered the highest number of casualties from lightning strikes. Khorimahua Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amarendra Kumar provided details, confirming that at least 7 people died and 3 others suffered severe burn injuries across three police station jurisdictions within his sub-division. Additionally, another police official confirmed that one person died due to a lightning strike under the Bagodar police station area in Giridih, bringing the total fatalities in Giridih district to 8.
Tragedies in Dumka and Latehar
In Dumka district, multiple lightning incidents occurred across the Ramgarh block during heavy rain. Police officials confirmed that 3 people died in separate locations within the Ramgarh area, while 4 others, including a young child, suffered injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities. In Latehar district, lightning incidents reported across various police station areas caused 3 deaths and left one woman critically injured.
Three Electrocution Fatalities Reported in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh recorded 3 electrocution deaths and 1 injury across separate incidents involving household wiring, municipal equipment, and electrical infrastructure. In Deoria district's Asanhar village, located under the Gauri Bazar police station area, an 8-year-old girl died after suffering an electric shock while charging a mobile phone at home. She sustained severe burns and was rushed to Deoria Medical College, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Station Officer Mrityunjay Rai stated that the body was sent for post-mortem examination to facilitate further procedures.
Fatal Incidents involving Transformers and Temple Wiring in Etah and Lucknow
In the Radha Vihar neighborhood under Kotwali Nagar police station in Etah district, a 10-year-old boy named Aarush died after accidentally coming into contact with an electrical transformer. Police reported that Aarush was returning home after dropping his younger brother at tuition when the incident occurred. He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead. In Lucknow's Gosainganj area, 65-year-old temple priest Roop Chand died after coming into contact with domestic power lines at the Rambagh Dham Amethi temple. Police dispatched teams to inspect the scene and sent the body for autopsy. Meanwhile, in Marhara town within Etah district, 6-year-old Fiza received an electric shock upon touching a public water cooler installed by the municipal corporation. Local shopkeepers intervened quickly, saving her from serious harm.
