Official financial disclosures submitted to the Election Commission have revealed a sharp contraction in political funding for the Aam Aadmi Party. Across the 2025-26 financial year, the political outfit declared aggregate donations amounting to 12.10 crore rupees. This represents a steep drop of approximately 68 percent when evaluated against the previous financial period of 2024-25, during which the organisation had collected 38.10 crore rupees. Such a pronounced annual shrinkage marks a major shift in the financial trajectory of the Arvind Kejriwal-led organisation.
Corporate Trusts and Corporate Entities Anchor Core Revenue
A closer examination of the submission shows a register of 1,202 distinct donors. Despite the hundreds of contributors, the vast majority of the party's funds originated from just two institutional sources. Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited each transferred 5 crore rupees into the treasury, combining for an intake of 10 crore rupees that accounted for roughly 83 percent of the entire corpus declared for the fiscal year.
The contribution from Trident Limited has drawn particular scrutiny due to the corporate entity's links to Rajinder Gupta, who founded the enterprise and previously represented the party as a Rajya Sabha member. The corporate entity presented its 5 crore rupee cheque on January 9, 2026, at a time when Gupta remained aligned with the party. Subsequently, in April 2026, he shifted his political allegiance by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Individual Contributions from Prominent Party Leaders
Party executives and office bearers also made personal monetary deposits over the course of the fiscal cycle. National convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal contributed a cumulative sum of 30,000 rupees, broken into three separate transfers of 10,000 rupees each. Similarly, former Delhi chief minister Atishi transferred 42,000 rupees across 12 monthly instalments of 3,500 rupees.
The largest internal executive donation came from Aman Arora, who heads the party's Punjab unit. He deposited 1.20 lakh rupees via 12 individual payments of 10,000 rupees. The donor logs also contained the name of Ashutosh Ranka, currently the co-convenor of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Prior to his formal association with the CJP, Ranka had made a financial donation of 21,100 rupees to the party.
Multi-Year Trajectory and Broader Regional Contraction
Over the span of three financial years, the party's declared donor accounts have experienced volatile swings. During the 2023-24 financial cycle, the registered total stood at 11.06 crore rupees. That figure jumped dramatically to 38.10 crore rupees in 2024-25, before sinking back down to 12.10 crore rupees in the latest 2025-26 figures, reflecting sharp fluctuations in funding consistency.
This downturn mirrors a broader trend observed across several prominent regional parties during the same period. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) reported an intake of 58.25 crore rupees for 2025-26, compared to 83.03 crore rupees in the preceding year. The contraction was even steeper for the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), which collected 24.31 crore rupees in 2025-26 after securing 140.04 crore rupees in 2024-25. In Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) declared zero individual donations above the 20,000 rupee reporting threshold in its latest filing, contrasting sharply with the 60 crore rupees reported under that category a year prior.
