An eight-year-old child discovered entirely abandoned and devoid of any identity at the Bhadrak railway station in Odisha back in 2023 has finally embarked on a hopeful new chapter. Following a strenuous three-year period of administrative searches and legal procedures, a couple hailing from Goa has officially adopted him. This monumental shift in his life has not only provided him with a loving family but also a brand-new identity, as he will now be known to the world as Sai Vijaynath.
The Initial Discovery At The Station
According to the officials from the District Child Protection Unit, the heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the year 2023. The young boy was found in a completely orphaned state at the bustling Bhadrak railway station. At the time of his discovery, authorities noted that he was sitting beside a transgender individual. The officials immediately initiated questioning to understand the situation. However, the initial inquiry yielded no results, as neither the young boy nor the accompanying person could provide any relevant details regarding his biological family, hometown, or parental background. Stepping in to protect the vulnerable minor, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) took immediate custody of him. The committee temporarily named the boy Shubham and transferred him to the Mahapurush Ashram located in Kanjiapal, a facility that was already providing shelter to numerous other orphaned children.
The Exhaustive Search For His Roots
Placing the boy in an ashram was only the first step for the district administration, which remained committed to locating his real family. The officials launched a relentless and comprehensive search operation to reunite the child with his biological parents. The district authorities utilized print media by publishing his photographs and details in various newspapers. In addition to traditional media, they heavily leveraged social media campaigns to broadcast his information across broader networks. The authorities held onto the hope that someone would recognize the boy. However, despite these exhaustive public appeals and a prolonged waiting period, no individual stepped forward to claim him or offer any verifiable clues regarding his original family.
The Legal Adoption Framework
When all possible avenues to trace his biological parents were exhausted without success, the administration shifted its focus toward securing a permanent, alternative future for him. The formal legal process for adoption was set into motion. Following the stringent guidelines mandated by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), multiple tiers of background verifications were conducted to evaluate potential homes. Through this rigorous centralized system, a couple from Goa, identified as M.K. Vijaynath and Geeta Vijaynath, were vetted and subsequently chosen as the most suitable adoptive parents to provide a nurturing environment for the child.
The Final Approval And A Fresh Start

Before the adoption was legally finalized, Shubham spent a crucial period of approximately fifteen days living with his prospective parents. The primary purpose of this mandatory bonding phase was to allow both the child and the Goan couple ample time to understand each other and develop a foundational emotional connection. Once this introductory period concluded successfully, the administration proceeded with the final legal formalities. The boy and his new parents were presented before Bhadrak District Magistrate Dilip Routray for the concluding verification. After a thorough review, the magistrate granted the final official approval for the adoption. Upon receiving this clearance, the couple officially renamed the boy Sai Vijaynath, paving the way for him to leave his struggles behind and start a fulfilling life in Goa.
