The severe flooding in Assam has disrupted countless lives, prompting actor Adil Hussain to voice his anguish over the worsening conditions and share how the calamity has hit his own family. Born and raised in Assam, the actor noted that while he has witnessed annual floods since childhood, the scale and severity this time far exceed previous years, leaving him deeply saddened, angry, and frustrated.
Family Hardships Amid the Deluge
Sharing details about his relatives, Hussain revealed that his sister and nieces live in Sivasagar, where floodwaters have inundated their homes completely. He is trying his best to provide all possible support to his family during this crisis. He is also in regular touch with Papon, who has been appealing to the public to aid those affected by the disaster. Pointing out the limitations of temporary relief efforts, he emphasized that authorities need to move beyond just distributing aid and find a concrete resolution to the recurring misery.
Calling for Expert Intervention
Highlighting the systemic roots of the disaster, Hussain questioned why, despite floods occurring year after year, no long-term preventive measures have been conceptualized to ease the burden on residents. Unplanned construction, the destruction of natural wetlands, and large-scale deforestation have severely aggravated the environmental conditions in the region. To tackle this, he suggested forming an expert committee comprising engineers, environmentalists, landscape planners, and urban planning specialists to formulate a viable strategy.
A Versatile Career Rooted in Assam
Hailing originally from Goalpara in Assam, Hussain has built a diverse acting career spanning Hindi, Assamese, and international films and web series. Audiences also recognize him for his memorable performance alongside Sridevi in the film English Vinglish.
