Ali Ahmad, the second son of the late Atiq Ahmad, was escorted from Jhansi jail under an extensive security cover to appear before the Prayagraj district court on Monday. The appearance took place inside a fortified prison van in connection with an FIR registered at the Kareli police station involving charges of extortion of 5 lakh rupees, intimidation over land possession, and attempt to murder. Police and administration threw an impenetrable security cordon around the judicial complex during the proceedings.
Tight Protocol Following Previous Convoy Commotion
Law enforcement authorities maintained strict vigilance along the route and court premises due to past disruptions. During a previous transit, Ali's younger brother Ahzam had trailed the prison van with a motorcade, leading to commotion and the registration of a criminal complaint. In another related incident, two vehicles belonging to the motorcade of Umar were impounded following accusations of refusing to pay toll charges and creating a public disturbance. Learning from these episodes, officers ensured no unauthorised movement followed the prison transport on Monday.
Current Status of All Five Sons of Atiq Ahmad
Following the killing of Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf on 15 April 2023, the family faced continuous legal crackdowns and unforeseen tragedies. The situation of his five sons is structured as follows
- Eldest Son Mohammad Umar: Umar is currently incarcerated. He has been lodged in prison following an investigation by the CBI concerning the abduction and extortion of a Lucknow-based real estate businessman.
- Second Son Ali Ahmad: Ali is also behind bars, currently detained inside Jhansi jail. He is facing trial in cases involving an extortion demand of 5 lakh rupees and attempt to murder.
- Third Son Asad Ahmad: Asad is deceased. Following the Umesh Pal murder case, he was killed during an encounter with the STF in Jhansi in April 2023.
- Fourth Son Ahzam Ahmad: Ahzam is out of prison. Having recently transitioned from juvenile status to adulthood, he had been housed in a juvenile home during the Umesh Pal case. After turning of age, he secured bail and is facing legal proceedings.
- Youngest Son Aban Ahmad: The youngest son Aban recently lost his life. He died in a tragic and fatal road accident in August 2026.
