A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning at the district women's hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, when a sudden fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The blaze, triggered by a ventilator explosion, claimed the lives of three newborn infants who suffered severe burns. Despite the rapid spread of the fire, hospital staff managed to rescue many other babies in time.
Blast Occurs on the Third Floor NICU Ward
The incident took place around 3:30 AM on the third floor of the Amravati district women's hospital. At the time of the explosion, a total of 39 newborn babies were admitted to the special newborn care unit (SNCU). The sudden blast in the equipment caused immediate panic and sparked a raging fire inside the ward.
Prompt Rescue Efforts Save Multiple Lives
As soon as the fire broke out, doctors, nurses, and support staff on duty sprang into action, evacuating infants away from the danger zone. Their swift response averted a larger disaster. Authorities confirmed that out of the babies rescued from the smoke and flames, 6 infants were promptly shifted and admitted to a super speciality hospital for advanced medical care.
