Flood conditions in Assam showed signs of gradual improvement on Tuesday, with the total number of affected residents declining to over 1.22 lakh across five districts. However, the tragedy continued to unfold as two more casualties were reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the state flood death toll this year to 89. According to an official bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Tuesday evening, the latest deaths occurred in Sivasagar and Golaghat districts.
District Level Situation and Affected Population
The daily report released by ASDMA confirms that 1,22,100 people remain impacted in Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, and Sivasagar districts. This marks a positive shift compared to Monday, when more than 1.28 lakh residents across six districts were dealing with inundation. Sivasagar continues to be the worst hit area, accounting for nearly 60,000 affected people, followed by Charaideo with 31,000 residents and Jorhat with 20,000. Across the state, a total of 365 villages remain submerged under water.
Relief Operations and Essential Supplies Distribution
To support displaced families, local administrations have set up 55 relief camps and distribution centers across four districts. Currently, 17,857 affected citizens are receiving shelter, food, and essential care at these facilities. Relief distribution efforts over the last 24 hours involved supplying 99.63 quintals of rice, 18.47 quintals of pulses, 6.24 quintals of salt, and 608.83 liters of mustard oil to flood victims.
Agricultural Losses, Damaged Infrastructure, and River Levels
The floodwaters have wreaked havoc on agriculture and vital infrastructure across multiple districts. Official estimates indicate that 15,342.92 hectares of crop area have sustained heavy damage. Key infrastructure elements, including embankments, public roads, and bridges, have suffered structural harm. Furthermore, the Dhansiri river continues to flow above the danger mark at Numaligarh. The deluge has also impacted 26,575 domestic animals and poultry statewide.
