A fresh wave of shock has gripped the Mancheswar police station limits in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, following a second brutal murder within a span of twenty-four hours. Prior to this, a husband had allegedly killed his wife in the Chakeisiani locality of Mancheswar. In this latest incident on Tuesday, a twenty-five-year-old youth hooked on narcotics brutally beat his fifty-year-old father to death in the same jurisdiction. The father's only fault was his persistent attempt to steer his addicted son away from drugs by offering him medicated beedis instead of regular ones. Local authorities rushed to the scene immediately after receiving word of the crime, initiating a comprehensive probe.
The Contractor Father And His Troubled Son
The deceased has been identified as fifty-year-old S. Duryodhan, who worked professionally as a labor contractor to sustain his household. The accused in this grisly crime is his twenty-five-year-old and only son, S. Debraj. Upon being alerted about the incident, a police contingent accompanied by scientific experts hurried to the crime scene, secured the body, and commenced formal investigations. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned as they piece together the sequence of events that led to the tragic fatality inside the family home.
Medicated Beedis Sparked Daily Domestic Strife
Sharing details about the investigation, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Viswaranjan Senapati stated that preliminary inquiries revealed Debraj was severely addicted to brown sugar. Troubled by his deteriorating condition, the father had previously admitted him to a rehabilitation center for treatment. Acting on medical advice, Duryodhan began mixing de-addiction medication into the beedis he handed to his son. Whenever the young man asked for an ordinary smoke, the father would substitute it with the medicated version. Debraj detested this stealthy method, which frequently triggered heated domestic quarrels within the household.
Escalating Tensions Led To Flight Of Family Members
According to the police, a fierce argument had erupted over the exact same issue between the father and son on Monday night. The altercation grew so intense and menacing that the accused man's mother and other family members fled the house in fear, spending the night elsewhere. By Tuesday morning, only Duryodhan and Debraj remained inside the residence. When the father once again offered the medicated beedio, Debraj vehemently demanded a regular one. Refusing to back down, Duryodhan stood his ground, which sent the enraged son into a fit of extreme fury.
Fatal Attack With An Iron Pipe And Stones
Consumed by rage, the accused first grabbed an iron pipe to launch a brutal assault on his father and subsequently crushed him to death using a heavy stone. According to statements given by grieving relatives to the police, Debraj is also afflicted with a brain tumor, a condition that reportedly causes him sudden and intense bouts of uncontrollable anger. At present, the police have taken the accused into custody and are making formal preparations to present him before a court of law for further legal action.
