A major infrastructure upgrade is underway to improve travel for millions of pilgrims and local residents visiting the religious city of Chitrakoot. Aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and ensuring safe transit, an expenditure of 86 crore rupees is being allocated for the improvement and better connectivity of National Highway 35 leading towards Banda. This initiative is designed to streamline travel for tourists and commuters alike, with preparations for the project already underway.
Revamp of a 70 Kilometer Long Stretch
National Highway 35 runs from Chitrakoot toward Banda and is now being thoroughly upgraded to meet modern transit standards. Under this infrastructure project, a 70-kilometer stretch of the road will undergo complete renovation, alongside the repair of damaged pavement. Additionally, five damaged culverts will be reconstructed, and RCC drains will be constructed in densely populated areas like Bharatkoop and Shivrampur. These structural improvements will significantly benefit local residents as well as travelers arriving from other cities.
Enhanced Road Safety and Modern Signage
With commuter safety as a key priority, multiple road safety measures are being integrated into the project. These include the installation of metal beam crash barriers, modern road markings, retro-reflective signboards, and other protective installations to ensure that motorists traveling along this route face no difficulties while reaching Chitrakoot. Elaborating on the initiative, Chitrakoot District Magistrate Pulkit Garg stated that a total of 86.21 crore rupees is being spent on the development of this route.
Dedicated Parking and Heavy Vehicle Lay-Bays
Alongside roadway repairs, provisions are being made for safe stopping and vehicle management. A truck lay-by will be developed near Karwi to provide secure parking and resting facilities for heavy commercial vehicles. Officials noted that half of the project area falls within Chitrakoot district while the other half lies in Banda district. Construction work is scheduled to commence shortly, and upon completion, it will greatly facilitate seamless travel for visitors heading toward Chitrakoot.
