All Global Problems Stem From Lack of Affiliation and Empathy, Says RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat stated in Nagpur that global issues arise from a lack of genuine connection among people. He emphasized the importance of service, empathy, and moving beyond selfish thinking.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Chief Mohan Bhagwat stated on November 7 that all the major problems plaguing the world today originate directly from a lack of mutual belonging and deep-rooted empathy toward others. He stressed that in order to establish lasting peace and ensure collective welfare across society and the globe, it is vital to cultivate the fundamental feeling that every single person belongs to us.

Addressing the Silver Jubilee Event in Nagpur

The RSS chief was addressing a special gathering organized in Nagpur to mark the silver jubilee, or twenty-fifth anniversary, of the social service organization Samarpan Foundation. During his address, he shared his perspective on critical values such as a sense of belonging, human sensitivity, and the spirit of selfless service to society.

The Necessity to Rise Above Egoistic Thinking

Bhagwat explained that a sense of belonging acts as a unifying thread that binds the entire world together. This very sentiment aids in recognizing complex societal problems and helps pave the way toward finding meaningful solutions. He also recalled his recent visit to the United States to attend a conference.

Recalling the statement made by a speaker from Nigeria during that event, he noted that true peace can never prevail in the world until the deeply ingrained mindset of 'I and mine' is completely eradicated. Expanding on this thought, he reiterated that virtually all global challenges are somehow rooted in this selfish notion of individualism.

Fostering Goodwill for Everyone

The RSS chief pointed out that to rise above this narrow-minded thinking, individuals must consciously develop the mindset that everyone is part of our own family. Just as we earnestly desire good things for ourselves and our loved ones, we should harbor the same sincere wish for the well-being and prosperity of others. He described this as a unique perspective that, when adopted, can guarantee the welfare of all humanity.

Service is Inherent to Human Nature

Discussing human disposition, Bhagwat noted that humans are naturally compassionate by birth, which is why they have naturally embraced the tradition of service. He emphasized that acts of service should never be performed for show or superficial recognition; rather, they must be carried out quietly, consistently, and with utmost dedication.

He recalled his experiences from the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, sharing that when he asked RSS workers in Nagpur about their relief efforts, he learned that within a span of just two months, as many as 40 distinct service initiatives had been successfully undertaken. He noted that the Samarpan Foundation was also actively involved in these collaborative relief efforts.

Sensitivity Sets Humans Apart

Concluding his address, the RSS chief stated that the only distinct difference between humans and animals lies in human sensitivity and compassion. Because they possess sensitivity, human beings genuinely care about the plight and welfare of others. They do not merely concern themselves with their own survival, but worry about the lives of those around them as well. Mohan Bhagwat affirmed that serving others is an eternal and permanent trait of human nature, adding that even if a time comes when no person on earth suffers from any misery, humans will undoubtedly continue to engage in service activities in one form or another.
