A disturbing threat delivered over a phone call turned wedding celebrations into panic in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district, just as final preparations were underway for the groom to depart with his wedding party. Guests had gathered, traditional departure rituals were being conducted, and relatives were celebrating when the groom received an unexpected phone call warning him of fatal consequences if he dared to show up at the venue. The caller explicitly warned that the bride belonged solely to him and threatened to shoot the groom midway if the procession set out. Shaken by the open threat to his life, the groom refused to proceed with the marriage ceremonies and headed straight to the police station for protection.
Threatening Phone Call Halts Departure Rituals
The affected groom is a resident of the Dhanaura police station jurisdiction and works as a computer operator at a private bank in Delhi. His father has previously served as a village head. The match had been arranged with a young woman from the neighbouring village of Haibatpur Chaudhriyan, whose father is a respected schoolteacher in the area. With all arrangements completed and guests dressed for the procession, an unfamiliar number called the groom's mobile phone. The caller identified himself as Arshad Malik and issued a direct ultimatum, claiming to be in love with the bride and declaring that he would gun down the groom on the road if he brought the wedding procession. The intimidating message left the groom and his household deeply terrified, bringing the entire celebratory atmosphere to a screeching stop.
Hours of Discussions at Police Station as Bride's Family Pleads
Upon receiving word of the halted procession, the bride's relatives rushed to the police station in distress to salvage the matrimonial alliance. Her family explained to police officers that they had stretched their financial limits and spent well beyond their normal means on wedding arrangements, providing gifts that included a car and expensive furniture items. Expressing deep anxiety over social humiliation, the family pointed out that an abandoned marriage would devastate their reputation and ruin them socially. Meanwhile, the bride clarified that the accused caller resides in her village and had been unilaterally harassing her without any provocation, insisting she had no relationship or connection with him. Despite prolonged deliberations and extensive discussions spanning several hours inside the police precinct, the terrified groom stood firm on his decision not to proceed, ultimately returning home without his bride.
Police Take Suspect into Custody to Examine Phone Records
Recognising the severity of the death threat, local police initiated swift action, detaining the accused youth for detailed questioning. During the community discussions mediated at the police station, it was determined that investigators will extract the call detail records (CDR) of both the accused individual and the bride. Police officials noted that analyzing these communication logs will definitively establish whether any prior contact existed between the two individuals. Authorities added that further considerations regarding a rescheduled wedding date will only take place once the investigative findings and phone records clarify the facts of the matter.
