A violent suspect identified as Hemant, accused of launching a horrific chainsaw attack on two schoolgirls in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district, was apprehended following an armed confrontation with law enforcement personnel. A specialized police squad intercepted the fugitive inside the forest area of Atmakur on Sunday. When officers moved in to secure his arrest, he launched an assault against the police team, prompting them to discharge six rounds in retaliatory firing. Hemant suffered serious bullet injuries in the exchange and was immediately transferred to the District Government General Hospital in Anantapur for medical treatment under police custody.
The Classroom Attack in Raptadu
The incident originally unfolded on October 31 inside the premises of a government school located in Raptadu. Hemant entered a tenth-standard classroom carrying a mechanical tree-cutting saw and aggressively targeted two female students. The sudden and brutal assault left both teenagers critically injured inside the classroom. Following the assault, the perpetrator fled the scene, triggering a massive search operation by local police forces to locate and detain him.
Confrontation in the Atmakur Forest
Investigating authorities gathered operational intelligence indicating that Hemant had taken shelter within the deep forest belt of Atmakur. Acting on the lead, specialized search units were dispatched to comb through the dense terrain. Upon cornering his hideout and attempting to take him into custody, the suspect reportedly retaliated by attacking the approaching officers. Faced with the sudden resistance, personnel opened fire, discharging six rounds to subdue him. The Circle Inspector of Raptadu also reportedly sustained injuries during the operation. With the suspect immobilized due to gunshots, officials transported him directly to the hospital.
Medical Condition of the Victims
The physical injuries inflicted during the school attack were severe, particularly for one of the two tenth-grade students. She sustained extensive deep cuts, multiple bone fractures, and lost her right arm as a result of the mechanical saw assault. The second student suffered injuries while courageously stepping in to protect her classmate from the attacker. Both victims were initially rushed to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur. Due to the critical nature of the trauma, authorities organized a dedicated green corridor to facilitate uninterrupted ambulance transit to a private medical facility in Bengaluru. Medical teams there have reported that her condition is now stable, while police continue their comprehensive investigation into the crime.
