A postal letter delivering a death threat has been received by Ambikapur Congress block president Gurpreet Sidhu, alleging an orchestrated assassination conspiracy being hatched from within prison walls. The letter, delivered on October 29, asserts that shooters from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana are being organized to target him. Taking note of the grave warning, the local political leader formally met the district police leadership to file a complaint, prompting an immediate investigation by law enforcement authorities.
Prior Violent Assault and Growing Security Concerns
This development follows an earlier physical assault on Gurpreet Sidhu that took place on August 29 near his residence in the Darripara neighborhood. Exactly two months after surviving that initial attack, the postal communication arrived on October 29, renewing safety concerns. Accompanied by details of the threat, Sidhu met Superintendent of Police Rajesh Agrawal to apprise him of the situation and request official intervention. The superintendent directed investigating officers to probe the claims and verify the background of the correspondence.
The Letter Contents and Unidentified Origin
The correspondence inside the envelope carries no sender name, although a specific name is written across the exterior envelope itself. Styled in the manner of confidential informant communication, the letter claims that inmates serving time in connection with the previous assault have allied with contracted shooters. It alleges substantial financial transactions have taken place behind prison walls to fund the conspiracy. Investigators are examining postal records, postal markings, and the envelope markings to trace the actual origin of the dispatch.
Allegations of an Organized Network and Longstanding Feud
Gurpreet Sidhu has linked the threat to an ongoing dispute involving specific individuals. Recounting the earlier incident from August, Sidhu stated that Prakash Sahu orchestrated the past assault, which resulted in Sunil Sahu and multiple others being remanded in prison custody. According to Sidhu, the letter directly mentions Sunil Sahu and associates operating from inside the prison facility, coordinating with external sharpshooters.
“The individuals who intend to eliminate me operate an organized syndicate. Its ringleader executed this plan. Prakash Sahu has been hounding me for the past eighteen months.”
The Congress leader explained that the hostilities originated roughly eighteen months ago following an FIR that implicated Prakash Sahu's son. Sidhu also alleged that a fabricated FIR was lodged against him by using a minor child, with the opposing party repeatedly making public claims alleging that he had assaulted the minor.
Police Department Initiates Broad Inquiry
Addressing the development, Surguja Additional Superintendent of Police Ritesh Choudhary confirmed the receipt of the formal grievance and stated that verification of all claims is actively underway.
“A formal complaint has been received and an inquiry is underway. Whatever facts emerge from the investigation will be made clear after all aspects are reviewed.”
Responding to inquiries regarding older pending cases connected to the complainant, the ASP clarified that those matters are registered criminal cases that are already on record and undergoing routine investigation. Law enforcement personnel are currently verifying the authenticity of the anonymous letter and investigating the potential links between incarcerated individuals and external criminal elements.
