Meteorological observations indicate that a weak atmospheric circulation is currently active approximately 5.8 kilometers above sea level. This weather feature extends from the South-West Bay of Bengal, traversing across Tamil Nadu toward the northern coast of Kerala. Simultaneously, a second weak circulation is operating in the lower atmospheric levels over the coastal region of Northern Tamil Nadu. The combined interaction of these two atmospheric circulations is drawing moisture across the region, triggering cloud formation and uneven rainfall patterns throughout the state and neighboring union territories.
Forecast for Saturday and Sunday Conditions
Under the influence of these atmospheric circulations, Saturday is expected to bring moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning to localized pockets within the Western Ghats districts. Wind speeds in these regions may reach between 40 and 50 km/h. Similar atmospheric conditions are forecast for Northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, where light to moderate rain and thunderstorms will likely be paired with wind gusts of 40 to 50 km/h. Other parts of Tamil Nadu may observe isolated rainfall accompanied by occasional lightning. In contrast, Sunday is projected to remain relatively calm, with rain activity mostly restricted to light or moderate showers at isolated spots along the Western Ghats.

Looking further into the week, meteorologists anticipate light to moderate rainfall across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal between August 10 and August 12. By August 13, scattered light to moderate precipitation is forecast for the Western Ghats districts, northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Remaining regions of Tamil Nadu are expected to see only light rain at one or two isolated locations. Furthermore, the RMC noted that maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are unlikely to experience any significant shift between August 8 and August 11.
