A shocking murder investigation in Ludhiana, Punjab, has exposed a grim sequence of events following a fatal clash over substance abuse. A 24-year-old resident allegedly killed his acquaintance with a brick before wrapping the corpse in a bedsheet and hauling it on his shoulder for nearly a kilometer. His initial plan to dump the body into the Budda Dariya stream failed when exhaustion forced him to abandon the remains in a street in the New Shakti Nagar locality. Authorities have since apprehended the suspect and uncovered details behind the crime.
Suspect Arrested and Background Revealed
The arrested individual has been identified as 24-year-old Harsh Kumar, residing in Masjid Wali Gali along Tibba Road. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Industrial Area-A Inderjit Singh Boparai, Harsh Kumar had been living alone for a long duration following the death of his parents. Over time, he became severely addicted to drugs. Investigations further revealed that he had recently negotiated the sale of his house and received an advance payment for the property prior to the incident.
Timeline of the Fatal Altercation
Police records indicate that Harsh Kumar met the victim just a few days before the incident took place. Both individuals were reportedly suffering from drug addiction. On August 5, both men were heavily intoxicated inside the suspect's residence when an argument broke out between them. As the confrontation escalated, Harsh Kumar allegedly struck the victim repeatedly with a brick lying nearby, inflicting deadly injuries that resulted in immediate death on the spot.
Desperate Attempt to Dispose of the Body
Following the fatal attack, Harsh Kumar attempted to cover up the crime. He wrapped the victim's body tightly inside a bedsheet and hoisted it onto his shoulder. Carrying the heavy load, he walked nearly one kilometer through the streets toward the Budda Dariya stream with the intention of throwing the corpse into the water. However, upon reaching the New Shakti Nagar area, he grew physically unable to carry the body any further. Realizing he could not reach his intended destination, he left the wrapped body in an alley and fled the scene.
Ongoing Efforts to Identify the Victim
Upon discovering the abandoned body, local police registered a case and traced the suspect through immediate investigation. During police questioning, Harsh Kumar disclosed that the victim had introduced himself as Ritik, but no additional personal details or address were known to him. Law enforcement officials are actively reviewing local CCTV footage and analyzing recent missing person records across the district to verify the victim's full identity and establish a complete timeline of events.
